There are auction houses that specialize in train items. This can be a heavy lift and the amount realized is unpredictable, but for huge collections it is often the only way to deal with it all at once.
If you don’t mind a part-time job, selling online or at train shows will likely yield the most money for a collection. It is incredibly time consuming and an over reliance on sites like eBay can result in fees and income tax that eat up your profit.
